Welcome to My SEA Teacher Journey!




Hello! I am Monique Lusia Saudale, a 3rd year Chemistry Education student at Nusa Cendana University (Undana), Indonesia. One of the most extraordinary experiences in my academic journey was being one of the participants of the SEA Teacher Batch 10 in 2025, this programme took me to the Philippines precisely in roxas city, capiz province, where I was placed at Capiz State University pontevedra campus as well as undergoing my teaching practice at Feliciano yusay consing National High School.

This programme has been such a rewarding experience, exposing me to a new culture, exploring the education system in the Philippines, and developing my teaching skills as a teacher education student.
Through this blog, I will share my exciting and interesting experiences during this programme, I hope this story offers you new perspectives. Enjoy the read!


Capiz state university


C
apiz State University is a public research university in the Philippines. The university is mandated  provide teaching and training in agriculture, fisheries and forestry, science and technology, arts and humanities, education and other fields. It is also mandated to conduct research, extension services and production activities. The administrative center of the university is located in Roxas City.

Guiding Principles

As provided in the University Code, the operation of the University is guided by the following principles:

(a) Academic Freedom.  The University has the right and the responsibility to exercise academic freedom. Institutional academic freedom is the freedom of the university from intervention and control in the conduct of its affairs. Individual academic freedom is the right of the teacher and the student to conduct academic and scholarship inquiry and to publish the results without prior restraint or subsequent punishment.

(b) Responsibility.  As a public institution supported by public funds, the University is responsible for carrying out the basic principles laid down by the Constitution of the Philippines and the University Charter and to relate its activities and offerings to the needs of the region and the nation. Training for responsible leadership and citizenship shall be provided to those who abide by the norms of the institution to achieve their maximum potential in a society that respects human dignity to attain the common goal. 

(c) Academic Standards. The University shall achieve and maintain high academic standards of instruction, research, extension, and production; and  all other administrative and auxiliary activities shall be supportive of these functions.

Core Values

The university shall strive to exemplify the following core values as the foundations of all actions:

(a)  God-Centered CapSU adheres to the greatest of all commandments.  The first is to Love God with all our heart, soul, and strength. The second is Love of neighbor/fellowmen as ourselves. Everything we do in CapSU is for the honor and glory of God and for the welfare of humanity.

(b)  Excellence “We excel where it counts.” In CapSU, all our endeavors will be undertaken to the best of our ability.  All services will be delivered within our “level best”.  All jobs and HR advancement will be based on merit and fitness, placing the right mix of people at the right job. Performance will be characterized by fineness, brilliance and distinction. 

(c) Integrity “Honesty is the best policy.” All the instruction, research, extension, and production activities are in the pursuit of truth-being defined as the knowledge of things as they are, as they were, and as they are to come. The methodologies and approaches are scientific, credible/reliable, verifiable and dedicated to the formation of honest, honorable, righteous and productive citizens of the community. 

(d) Transparency and Accountability  The Agency Transparency Seal showing the simplicity, clearness, precision and intelligibility of all our services and transactions are posted on the CapSU website: www.capsu.edu.ph.  We are responsible and accountable for our actions.  We must be proactive, as such, we must act rather than to be acted upon.

(e) Dedication to Quality Service We will honor our Commitment to pursue a task to its completion, devotion to duty, and loyalty to CapSU as an institution as summed up in the acronym, RACE: Responsive, Accessible, Courteous and Effective Public Service






The University is governed by the Board of Regents (BOR) which is composed of the CHED Chairperson or Commissioner as the Chairperson; the University President as Vice Chairperson; Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture; Chairperson of the House of Representatives Committee on Higher and Technical Education; Regional Director of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA); Regional Director of the Department of Agriculture (DA); Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technolgy (DOST); President of the Federation of Faculty Associations; President of the Federation of Alumni Associations; President of the Federation of Student Councils; and two (2) prominent citizens of the province of Capiz.
   
  The center for administration of the University is in Roxas City where the University President holds office. The University President is assisted by three Vice Presidents (Vice President for Administration and Finance, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Vice President for Research, Developmentt and Extension) and Directors. There are 10 existing campuses each headed by a Campus Administrator. Under this CapSU Strategic Plan, however, the organizational set-up will be rationalized such that only three (3) major campuses will exist, namely: Main Campus in Roxas City and Pontevedra Campus in the 1st Congressional District and Burias Campus in the 2nd Congressional District. Campuses in Dayao, Pilar, Sapian, Sigma, Mambusao, Dumarao and Tapaz will become satellite colleges of the major  campusess 
    During the SEA Teacher program, I was placed at Capiz State University (CapSU) Pontevedra Campus located in Barangay Bailan, Pontevedra, Capiz 5802, Philippines.

 6.Summary and Suggestion 1.Purpose of practicum  The purpose of this practicum is to provide direct teaching experience, improve pedagogical skills, and hone abilities in classroom management and communication with students. In addition, this practicum is an opportunity to apply the theories that have been learned in real situations in the classroom . 2. Prosedures of practicum  Practicum prosedures include teacher observation, lesson planning, preparation of teaching materials, implementation of classroom learning, as well as reflection and evaluation of the effectiveness of the methods used. Each stage is accompanied by a supervising teacher to ensure the improvement of teaching skills . 3. outcome of practicum  During this program, my skills in developing lesson plans, delivering material clearly, and managing the classroom have improved.
